What I’m Reading: The Name of the Wind

20 Oct

I finished another book from the To-Read Pile!  Hooray!  I was totally distracted by Chibications, moving preparations, and birthdays, so I only got one book finished this month, but BOY was it yummy!  It’s called The Name of the Wind, by Patrick Rothfuss, and it’s AWESOME.

definitely worth the 722 pages.

In it you’ll meet Kvothe, a tragic hero if ever there was one.  He’s tough, smart, musical, good looking (I mean, who doesn’t love a red head?), and magical!  And, of course, he’s got a mysterious past, some tricksy friends, and a story that’s definitely worth the 722 page investment.  The story lines are deliciously intricate, but better than that – the prose is downright addicting.  Check out this excerpt:

I’ll tell you, I made it about half way through before I realized that Rothfuss wasn’t going to finish the story in this one volume.  My ambivalence almost sent me to the third door!  Who knows how long it will be until the second installment comes out?  “Coming Soon” isn’t nearly specific enough.  On the other hand, HOORAY!  There is at least one more book about Kvothe! (It’s called The Wise Man’s Fear, and I can’t seem to find anywhere that will tell me how long I have to wait for it.  Boo).

Anyway, you should read this.  You really should.  I’d give you my copy, but there are already three people in line to borrow it.  I might actually read it again before I start lending it out…  Does that make me a bad person?  Anyway.  Turn off the TV and go get this book.  You won’t regret it.  })i({
