Another Rag Rug? Oh NO!

17 Sep

Really now, friends. The first one wasn’t THAT bad, was it?

The moM came for a visit a bit ago and brought schfifty-five t-shirts with her, and since we already knew what *not* to do, we (well, mostly moM. But I was very supportive!) made a ton of t-shirt yarn!

Yeah, that's a quarter.

I gave moM one of my super gigantor crochet hooks (and some vino, of course), and she created this:

She made the shoes, too! (No, not really)

She used half-double crochets, so the rug was nice and thick (and quite modern looking) in the end.

Nicholas the Bunny

21 Aug

Did you know you can request a custom item from my Etsy shop?  Claire wanted Nicholas the Bunny, the star of Richard Scarry‘s book, “I am a Bunny.”

I looked at a few pictures of little Sir Nicholas, turned my thinking cap on, and got started.

This is Nicholas's MySpace profile pic - he's such an Emo little guy.

Turns out no two pictures of Nicholas have *quite* the same detail, so I had to use my super-duper decision-making skills (and ask Husband, my mom, Chibi, and, you know, pretty much everyone I’ve seen in the past few days) to decide what to put in and what to leave out.

Adorable, no?

Here’s what the finished product looks like:

I literally cannot STAND the cuteness.

look at his cute little bunny tail! Awwww!

This is Nicholas’s Linked-In profile shot; it’s much more respectable.

Turns out that despite my previous pattern design projects, Mr. Nicholas here finally convinced my darling Chibi that I can actually invent crochet patterns, and she has subsequently asked for a Sailor Moon doll and that magic screwdriver thingy Dr. Who carries around (I’ve never seen the show, so please forgive my ignorance).  Since I finally finished my teeny Snoopy pattern (you’ll be seeing him in the very near future), it looks like I have my next few pattern projects lined up!

Sweet Mother of… erm… Babies.

22 Jul

My friend is going to have a baby soon, and since babies tend to like, you know, toys and clothing, I made the following:

the cutest hat in all the land

the cutest bunny lovie in all the land

the cutest baby shoes in all the land

Uhm, so, yes, as usual, I found all of these patterns for FREE. You can find them here:

PIXIE HAT

BUNNY LOVIE (you’ll need a LionBrand login for this one)

BABY SHOES

And as usual, I shunned wrapping paper (SHUN!) and transformed a regular old paper bag into a lovely little gift-giving device with a hole punch and a bit of ribbon:

Congratulations, Brandee & Richard!!!

Well, *someone* had to try on the hat!

Oh yeah, and eggs too.

EGGS.

Not as cool as toast, but still fairly awesome.

You can find the free pattern for these cute little eggywegs here:

Little Fried Egg

And that about does it for Nephew’s Birthday Breakfast.  I think I’ll make him lunch next year…

Happy Birthday, Nephewsula!

Happy Birthday, daD!

24 Jun

Today is my daD’s birthday! He’s turning… uhm… I don’t know, six hundred years old or something.  In honor of my old, old (really super old) daD, I thought you all might want to see some of his favorite things!

daD's back yard

daD's first grandbaby (playing with Auntie Melissa's water beads)

daD's fishies

daD's pond-side chats with family and a cuppa

daD's pond (he really likes the pond, okay?!?)

daD's freshly painted back fender

daD's lone wolf gas tank

So, to sum up, my daDdy loves fishies, grandbabies,  his pond, choppers, wolves, his pond, a nice cuppa, and his pond.

Oh, and also, he loves his pond.

Happy Birthday, daDdy! I love you!

I’m Back, and I <3 my daD!

18 Jun

Great news, friends!  My project is finally, FINALLY finished!  Since it’s a gift you’ll have to wait a bit to see; I don’t want to ruin the surprise.  T-minus two weeks until you can see the lovely pictures!

In the meanwhile I’ve been working on just a few things, including these:

how do you make crochet manly? Why, put some whiskey inside, of course!

For Father’s Day this year we got the dads (daD and Dadio, as they like to call themselves) some really awesome whiskey stones.

brown bow = totally manly, right?

And, since it seemed weird to get them whiskey stones without whiskey, we got Dadio a bottle of his favorite beverage and the daD a bottle of something new to try – honey whiskey (which, by the way, is DEEEEElicious)!

Dadio's whiskey pops its collar LIKE A BOSS.

Do you think the dads will forgive the girlie packaging?  I hope so.  =)

Happy Father’s Day to all you dads (and grandpas, and uncles, and soon-to-be dads, and you know, all of the awesome male role models floating around out there).  We love you!

Stop Hurting Yourselves, Family!

26 Apr

Remember how my moM had carpal tunnel surgery not too long ago and earned herself a sweet pair of wrist warmers and a strong dose of pain killers?

Turns out my M-I-L had the very same surgery this month and earned herself her very own set of wrist warmers (side note: I’m pretty sure “earned” is like, a completely inappropriate word in this situation, but I can’t think of one I like better…).

Now then. Family. I love you, and I love making presents for you, but how about you let me make you a present for no reason in particular, eh?

That means no more surgeries, no more flu viruses, no more falling down anything or breaking anything.  HECK – no more runny noses!  You got that family?  STAY HEALTHY.

And, M-I-L, please get on to the healing & feeling better part! We love you!
