Free Pattern Friday: Fabulous Fingerless Gloves

4 Feb

The Wait is Over!  Print out this pattern, pop in a movie, and get hooking!  By the end of the evening you’ll have an awesomely cute set of Fabulous Fingerless Gloves, which means you won’t feel so bad for watching Coyote Ugly for the seventeenth time…

Ferabeth’s Fabulous Fingerless Gloves

You’ll need:  an “H” hook, a tapestry needle, and a skein of your favorite yarn (I had a skein of 185 yards and had plenty left over)

You’ll want: to put your cell phone somewhere close.  It sucks to have to un-snuggle from the couch and put down the hookery just to answer the phone.  It’s probably a telemarketer anyway.  Put the phone where you can see it so you can utilize caller ID, yo.

1: ch 24, sl st. to join (be careful not to twist your chain).

2: sc around

3-4: dc around in BACK LOOPS ONLY.  (You’ve just completed the cuff).

5-6: dc around in BLO. (2 rows)

7-11: dc around in BLO, dc-inc on last stitch (5 rows)

12: in BLO, dc-inc x4, 20 dc, skip the rest of the stitches, sl st to the 3rd stitch of the next row (you should be skipping a total of 8 stitches).

13: dc around in BLO.

14. dc around in BLO, FO.

***IF YOU WANT TO MAKE THESE BAD BOYS BIGGER (or smaller), just add or subtract stitches in the following places:

ROW 1:  start with 24 & keep track of how many you add or subtract.

ROW 12: complete as written until you get to the 20dc.  At this point, add or subtract your number from row one (for example, if I chained 30 instead of 24 in row one, I would add 6 to my 20dc for a total of 26dc).  Complete the rest of the row as written.

That’s it!  Super Easy, super awesome, super fabulous! (Did you say ‘Voila’?  Come on, say it.  Saaayyyy iiiiiit!)   Happy Hooking, everyone!

Free Pattern Friday: Granny 1/2 Square Bag

28 Jan

Remember that Half Granny Square Tutorial I did earlier this month?  Well, I ended up with this:

It's a sting ray!

Which, if you fold all three corners in towards the middle and whip stitch them, ends up looking like this:

OMG cute, right?

I added a little handle and a velcro closure (which I reinforced by embroidering that little extra bit of light green you see in the middle — velcro needs something to stick to!), and mailed this off to the second official recipient of my 2011 Handmade Pay It Forward Campaign (Want to get involved?  Use some form of electronic communication to contact me & I’ll tell you all the cool details).

Here are the official pattern directions:

1. Make a 1/2 granny square 15 rows big (look HERE for a refresher on how to accomplish this).

2. sc around the entire 1/2 square & FO.

3: Fold any two adjacent corners in toward each other until they are touching and whip stitch them together through the sc’s (The whip stitches are white on my bag).

4. Fold the last corner in & whip stitch it into place. TURN YOUR BAG INSIDE OUT, making the inside the outside. Or, if you like the way the stitches look, just leave the bag the way it is!

(side note: I just realized I was supposed to switch the laundry two hours ago.  Oops).

5. Where the three corners meet, embroider a little oval or rectangle-y bit to even out the top edge and give some support to your velcro, should you decide to add some.

6. Chain a chain about the size of the circumference of your wrist, FO, & sew to the side of the bag.  VOILA!  (did you say “voila”?  Seriously.  It’s ever so much more satisfying if you say “voila”).

the back of the bag, which is also totally cute. Maybe it should be the front... Hmm...

Aahhh! The cuteness! It hurts my eyes! It's TOO cute! It's just TOO CUTE!!!

Obviously you can make as many rows as you’d like – the bigger the 1/2 square, the bigger the bag.  This size (which I made with a G hook, btw), is the perfect size for make-up.  Or snacks.  Mmmm…snacks.  I love snacks…  })i({

I Started This Post 3 Hours Ago…

24 Jan

…and then the water delivery guy showed up, and then the kitten wanted some attention, and then I needed a cup of tea, and then Husband called, and then I somehow got stuck on Facebook…  Oops.  I blame… uhm… Winter.  Stupid winter.

The good news is that the Steelers win yesterday pulled me out of my sickness funk (HERE WE GO, STEELERS!  HOORAY!), so even though I’m still feeling less than 100%, I did manage to get Chibi’s stripey hand warmers done.  I kind of want to make a black and gold pair to wear for the SUPERBOWL… hmm…

The Chibi's hands are about to get warmer!

purple + gray = WARMandFUZZY.

So.  No more stealing of moM’s handwarmers, Chibi, kk?  })i({
