Lucy’s Apple

5 Apr

Neice2 has a birthday this month, and guess what she’s getting!

Om to the Nom!

Her very own apple, crocheted by Yours Truly.  I’m guessing by now that my sisters-in-law will have discovered my pattern – their kids are all getting apples from me this year.  Luckily, I started this little guy in plenty of time to counteract the pregnancy-induced finger swelling, carpal tunnel syndrome, and arthritis, so Miss Lucy will have a delightful Granny Smith to open on her Birthday!  Hooray!

I heard through the grapevine that Lucy’s having an owl themed party this year, so she’s also getting these, some super adorable hand-made bows constructed by a friend of mine:

And a card I made.

Owl?

Husband assures me that this card, which started out as a pile of paper circles and a bottle of glue actually looks like an owl

…but I can’t tell if he’s just humoring me. What do you think?  Is it owl-ish enough to actually look like an owl?  I’m hoping Lucy won’t care much one way or the other.  If she does, I’m hoping her mommy will quickly change the subject and distract Lucy back to her awesome APPLE (which actually looks like an apple)!

I’ve had to take the apple listings off of my Etsy shop for now – what with my decreased motor skills it would take me way longer than I feel comfortable with to get any orders out, but hopefully things’ll be back up and running in the near future.  In the meanwhile, my patterns are still available, so wander on over to a Happy Little Shop & see what you can see!

AND… Happy Birthday, Lucy!  We love you!

Blame it on the Rain

14 Feb

Once I finished Baby’s Adoraboots I discovered it was physically impossible not to also make him a rain hat.  Because honestly.  What newborn doesn’t need rain gear?

I again used the green & gold hand-dyed yarn from Gnomespun (which is almost gone now… sad).  Look how disgustingly cute this hat is!

Gangsta Mowse can haz rain gearz.

Husband tried on the hat but refused to let me take a picture of him (it’s like he knew it would end up on the interwebs), so you’ll have to settle for Gangsta Mowse’s modeling skillz, yo.

This is some full-on, in your face CUTE, people.  I can’t wait for baby to be born so he can try this stuff on!

The pattern I found was for a one-sized “child’s” hat, but I messed with the yarn size and gauge until I got it to be baby-sized.  I’m going to work one up with my new favorite (cotton/hemp blend) yarn & see how it turns out.  Hopefully you’ll be seeing this awesome hat as one of my new Etsy listings soon!  And in the meanwhile, D’awwwwww… aren’t tiny things cute?

Pink Hat is Pink!

2 Feb

It was no less than 70 degrees and sunny here in Washington, DC yesterday, but it must be winter somewhere, because I just completed a custom Etsy order for this little hat:

Cute!

It’s an ear flap beanie made of a light pink, machine washable wool, and topped with a confetti bumble (size 12-24 mos)!   I have to say – I’m utterly in love with this pink yarn – it *seriously* looks delicious enough to nom (and that’s not just the pregnant girl craving food, either).

I realized too late that most of the pictures I took were from the same, vaguely alienesque angle, so please forgive the lack of… err… perspective.

Hello Kitty Mug Cozy

26 Jan

It’s my first order of the year, and isn’t it cute?

Hello Kitty!

A customer found the pattern online & asked me to whip one up for her… adorable!

The pattern designer asked that I not sell these little cuties on Etsy, so you won’t be seeing these on my shop.  She DID say she was okay with selling them at other venues, though, so if you’re interested just let me know!

Cute, cotton, and eco-friendly!  Good Kitty!

Christmas Recap

24 Jan

It happens every year.  I make tons of fabulous projects, then can’t blog about them because they’re going to be Christmas gifts and I don’t want to spoil the surprise. Instead of showing them one post at a time, I’m going to do an uber-post of this year’s gifts… hope you like it!

So, in case you were keeping track, that’s four scarves (green, yellow, and two not pictured), two snowman ornaments, five owl hats (a few not pictured), six or so oreo cookie ornaments, Hobbes, Chibi Moon, a zillion Christmas washcloth sets, and a Dr. Who scarf of epicness that was actually an Etsy order (doesn’t Husband look thrilled to be my model?).  There were a few other projects – some stone necklaces and such – but I forgot to take pictures of them.  Boo.  I’ll try to remember next time!  Merry Christmas!

Honey, We Need to Talk…

30 Oct

I’ve been distant.  I’ve been quiet.  You’re starting to wonder what’s going on with me, but when you ask I say, “Everything’s fine, don’t worry about it.”  You’re worried.  You wonder what happened to the several-posts-a-week me, and you’re starting to think you’ll never get the “old me” back again.  You’re starting to think I’ve been hiding something from you.

Welll…

… I HAVE been hiding something from you – something that’s been making me sick.  Something that’s been making me spend most of my days in bed or zonked out on the couch.  Something that’s been making me crave cashew nuts and ginger ale for breakfast…

It’s a baby!

Not this baby. This is an internet baby.

HOOOOOOOOOooooooRRRaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyy!

After two miscarriages, two years, several expensive (and totally embarrassing) appointments with an awesome fertility specialist, some drugs, some herbal supplements, and some serious thought about adoption, Husband and I are happy to be welcoming our first child on or around April 26th of next year.  ❤

So, I’ve been spending most of my time lately, well, gestating. Today the little tidbit in my belly is the size of a navel orange (about 4.5 inches), and come the beginning of December Husband and I will find out which team we’ll be on (Edward or Jacob…errr… I mean… pink or blue…).  We’re thrilled (and terrified, and totally overwhelmed, and, you know, I’ve been weeping a lot)!

In the meanwhile, things over at my Happy Little Shop have been kicking into high gear – I’ve been working on orders pretty constantly for the last few months, which means I haven’t been making many *new* things, but rather filling orders for Snoopy, Nicholas the Bunny, and Charlie Brown, among others.  I’m in the middle of remodeling over there – check out my newly designed banner & avatars when you stop by – and I’m closing down for the last month of the year to reorganize things & get my 2012 product line up and running.

And, because of some fortuitously timed changes at work-work, I’ll be cutting back to half-time at the end of November, which will, theoretically, give me more time to commit my hookery (and gestate)!  Hooray!

So.  No, I don’t want to break up with you – I LOVE you!  But I am going to need a bit more space (unless you really want to hover over me while I revisit breakfast).  =)

Also not my baby, but So. Freakin'. Cute.

Cheers!

Cranky Birds

23 Oct

Hi hi everyone!  Wanna see my latest Etsy order?

It had a little bit of this:

And some of these guys:

And these guys, too:

I have to tell you – these guys are pretty darn adorable!  I actually *hated* the patterns I used for the yellow guy and the white guy – I purchased them as a Ravelry download and they turned out much larger than the pattern led me to believe (there were some misleading pictures and no actual gauge in the pattern… boo), so, since it took me twice as long as expected to finish them, my poor Etsy customer had to wait a few extra days to get her cute little…errr…. I mean her cranky, very upset, full of animosity birds.  Luckily for her she had “pattern tester” status, so she got a really good deal!

Don't Steal Our Eggs!

She’s going to give them to her son for his themed birthday party, which is apparently going to involve a slingshot and a crap ton of first graders.  FUN!
