Lucy’s Apple

5 Apr

Neice2 has a birthday this month, and guess what she’s getting!

Om to the Nom!

Her very own apple, crocheted by Yours Truly.  I’m guessing by now that my sisters-in-law will have discovered my pattern – their kids are all getting apples from me this year.  Luckily, I started this little guy in plenty of time to counteract the pregnancy-induced finger swelling, carpal tunnel syndrome, and arthritis, so Miss Lucy will have a delightful Granny Smith to open on her Birthday!  Hooray!

I heard through the grapevine that Lucy’s having an owl themed party this year, so she’s also getting these, some super adorable hand-made bows constructed by a friend of mine:

And a card I made.

Owl?

Husband assures me that this card, which started out as a pile of paper circles and a bottle of glue actually looks like an owl

…but I can’t tell if he’s just humoring me. What do you think?  Is it owl-ish enough to actually look like an owl?  I’m hoping Lucy won’t care much one way or the other.  If she does, I’m hoping her mommy will quickly change the subject and distract Lucy back to her awesome APPLE (which actually looks like an apple)!

I’ve had to take the apple listings off of my Etsy shop for now – what with my decreased motor skills it would take me way longer than I feel comfortable with to get any orders out, but hopefully things’ll be back up and running in the near future.  In the meanwhile, my patterns are still available, so wander on over to a Happy Little Shop & see what you can see!

AND… Happy Birthday, Lucy!  We love you!

FPF: Parking Cone

1 Jul

You NEED to make these (and then you need to say VOILA, obviously).

baby parking cone & mommy parking cone

After you make them, you NEED to take them on adventures.

Baby Parking Cone's Jungle Adventure

Mommy Parking Cone Goes Spelunking

Baby Parking Cone... or Angel at Baby Jesus's Birthday?!?

Lifetime Movie: Mommy Parking Cone Feels Nostalgic (that's me and my brother when we were still tiny and cute!)

Baby Parking Cone Makes Coffee

Mommy Parking Cone Brushes up on her Pop Culture

After this, you NEED to give your parking cones to a child (I’m giving mine to my nephew) or else people will start to refer to you as “That Crazy Parking Cone Lady.”

THE END.

Oh, and here are the pattern links:

Happy Birthday, daD!

24 Jun

Today is my daD’s birthday! He’s turning… uhm… I don’t know, six hundred years old or something.  In honor of my old, old (really super old) daD, I thought you all might want to see some of his favorite things!

daD's back yard

daD's first grandbaby (playing with Auntie Melissa's water beads)

daD's fishies

daD's pond-side chats with family and a cuppa

daD's pond (he really likes the pond, okay?!?)

daD's freshly painted back fender

daD's lone wolf gas tank

So, to sum up, my daDdy loves fishies, grandbabies,  his pond, choppers, wolves, his pond, a nice cuppa, and his pond.

Oh, and also, he loves his pond.

Happy Birthday, daDdy! I love you!

I Totally Tricked My Husband!

3 Oct

Hooray!  We’re celebrating Husband’s birthday this weekend, and I totally tricked him!  He’s been hinting for months that he’d really like a nice big afghan from yours truly.  Because I am a tricksy one (AND a happy one!), I’ve been patronizing him about this.  Sure, honey.  I’ll make you one someday… I guess…

Anyway, I had this huge summer project going filled with star squares like this:

As you can see, I chose blue, black, and gray (which just happen to be Husband’s favorite colors…).  I told him I was making this as a wedding gift for some friends, but secretly I was making it for him all the while!  SO tricksy, eh?

He really liked it while I was making it, and kept saying things like, “Oh, those are my favorite colors,”  “You know, that’s a really cool blanket,”  and, “Wow, they’re really going to like that.  It’s black, like my soul!”  (Yes, he really does say the part about his soul being black…  it’s a joke, though, so don’t worry.  I’m pretty sure his soul isn’t actually black).  He also spent some quality time “testing” it to make sure it was “big enough.”  *grin*

I finished it in August, put it away, and haven’t mentioned it since.  Husband, I think, all but forgot about it.  …teeheehee…

Anyway, the best part is that I also made this:

…which I gave him first, telling a big long story about how I knew he really liked that big blanket, so I figured a pillow with the same pattern was a good consolation prize…  I’m so evilly tricksy!  Anyway, we went out to dinner (Indian, of course), and I ran back in the house before we left to do this:

…so as we crawled into bed at the end of the night, Husband discovered the rest of his present!  Hooray!  (He says, by the way, that he was never actually tricked and that he knew all the time I was making it for him.  Suuuure, Husband.  That’s what they all say…).

Oh, and just in case you were wondering, I also got Husband some delicious, delicious adult beverages.  Now he can drink scotch and snuggle…er… do manly things…while I’m on a Chibication in New Mexico!  Hooray!

Happy Birthday, John!  })i({

Mama’s Pillow

19 Sep

Well, the jig is up by now, and if I’ve scheduled this post correctly, I am *at this moment* attending Husband’s grandmother’s surprise 80th birthday party (Happy Birthday, Mama!)!

I decided to make Mama a pillow.  I started with two identical squares:

And turned one into this:

Then, because I get bored very easily, I changed the pattern for the other side of the pillow, and it turned out like this:

It was originally all white except for the flower, but I thought this side needed more color, so I just made a big long chain of purple & white together & wove it through a row of dcs.

The other side looks like this:

And, because I just happened to walk by this basket and thought it matched perfectly, Here’s how Mama’s present looks:

Yes, Mama got the scarf from Friday’s post.  She would have gotten the socks, too, but they’re already slated for someone else.  I didn’t have any ribbon long enough, and then suddenly noticed the (purple, even) scarf sitting right on my crafting table!  Perfect!  I hope she likes it! })i({
