What I’m Reading: The Host, by Stephenie Meyer

3 Nov

Can’t get enough of angst, love triangles, and characters with unfortunate names?  Then, please.  Read this book.  In it, Stephenie Meyer tells every Twihard’s favorite story, only this time with aliens!  Instead of Bella, Jacob, and Edward, you’ll meet Melanie, Ian, and Jared.  Instead of the unfortunately named Renesme, you’ll get to hang out with Wanda (yes, Wanda.  ugh).  This book’s got everything Meyer fans crave:

– angsty, glittery vampires aliens

– people kissing for odd reasons because they’re in love

– a comically evil bad girl enemy bent on revenge

– a love triangle (No wait!  This book is new and different!  It’s not a triangle this time… it’s a… it’s a… square?)

– a happy ending wherein everyone gets mostly exactly what (s)he wants.

Now, don’t get me wrong – I’m not saying you shouldn’t read this book.  It’s a good time!  It’s just over 600 pages, but it’s a quick read – I finished it in two days.  It’s almost like reading the Twilight series, only there aren’t any undertones about the importance of motherhood and family.  Oh, wait.  Yes there are.  Never mind.  If you’re looking for the next literary classic, well, keep looking.  BUT, if you want to spend a weekend wearing comfy pants and fantasizing about sparkles and kisses and ending up with an unexplainable craving for Cheetos, then this is the book for you!  …I wonder how long until the movie comes out…})i({

    Cheetos are the snack of choice in this book. Weird, right? Cheese isn’t supposed to “go crunch.” I still want some, though. Gosh, I haven’t had Cheetos in years!
