The Dream… Sort of…

2 Aug

My husband and I dream of going off-grid.  We want enough land for a mega-garden, solar panels, a well, grey water recycling, a hydroponic green house – the works.  Unfortunately, if we continue to live in the D.C. area, we’d need several more millions of dollars than we currently have (which is not to say that we have a million of anything, ‘cuz we don’t.  Except possibly dust bunnies).  So, in the meanwhile, we live here:

Yes, that’s right.  Suburban hell.  The land of evil HOAs and neighbors who knock on your door to tell you they’ve weeded the front beds for you (not that that happened…).  A place where you can personalize your house however you’d like, just as long as the landscaping committee approves your choice of shrubbery.  A place where your garbage cans may only be out on the curb from 6pm the night before trash collection until 6pm the day of trash collection, and where if you fail to follow the guidelines set in your homeowners’ handbook, a big yellow sign will be posted on your front door so everyone in the neighborhood knows what a tool you are.  Nothing like a little public humiliation to get you change that porch light, right?  But I digress.  In a few short months we’ll be out of here, and until then I’ll have to be content with secretly defying the HOA however I can.  Mwahahahaha!

I took this photo a few hours ago, but since this was the first time I’d tried to accomplish anything meaningful with my new, awesome Linuxy Zoltar, I first had to figure out how to install the photo editing software.  I am determined to learn ubuntu on my own, and I was *just* about to start investigating program files when my husband called.  I may or may not have asked for his help…

I also took a picture of our deck garden, and just as soon as I remember how to get the image from my iphone to my e-mail to my computer to my blog (which I’m pretty sure my husband could do in 0.002 seconds), I’ll share it with all of you fabulous people out in cyber-land.  In the meanwhile, the laundry just buzzed and my mom and aunt will be here soon, and I need to acquire some groceries, and, oh yeah, my Farmville crops are ready to harvest.    })i({
